My Top 3 Summer Hair Styles

There is nothing worse then your hair getting stuck to the back of your neck or sticking to your face in the summer weather.

I am definitely one of those people that like to scrape my hair back off of my face in the heat.

Wether you are at home or on holiday these would be perfect as they are quick, simple and consists of minimal products and tools.

Here are my Top 3 Summer Hair Styles I have been loving, they are super cute, fresh and easy to recreate.

Hairstyle number 1:  Beach waves

I love this hair style for summer evenings and cooler days. It looks super effortless and has loads of volume. I find it works best on freshly washed hair. It took me 15-20 minutes to create.

Step 1: After washing and blow drying my hair, I parted my hair in three sections, bottom, middle and top. I took big sections around 2 inches thick and curled with a barrel curling wand and repeated this throughout my hair.

Step 2:  I tipped my head upside down and with a wide tooth comb I brushed all my curls out to create soft beach waves.

Step 3: I parted my hair on the left side. On the right side I slick down the section remaining and tuck it behind my ear. I used hair oil then sprayed with hairspray to keep it in place. I put a pump of hair oil on my hands and ran my fingers through my hair to give it some shine and to keep it looking healthy.

Step 4: I backcombed my roots on the top and sides to give me some extra volume. I used my backcombing brush to do so.

Hair types: This works well on long, medium and short hair and also on thick and thin hair.

Top tip: I wrapped my hair around the curling wand for 5-8 seconds to create a loose curl giving me a beach wave effect.

Hair style number 2: Undone ponytail

I absolutely love this hair style! I am such a fan of messy hair and it only takes 5-10 minutes to create. It looks super cute for both day time and evening if you wanted to dress down your look. I find it works best on 2nd/ 3rd day hair.

Step 1: Use your backcombing brush to tease the roots to mid-lengths at the front middle section of your hair working your way back to the crown. Then gently smooth other the section right at the front.

Step 2: I find it easiest to tip my head upside down and use my back combing brush to smooth and gather the back and sides of my hair then tie in a pony tail.

Step 3: The top section may look bumpy and crazy so I use hair grips to pin in place. I then spritz hairspray on my back combing brush and smooth over the sides and underneath of the pony tail.

Step 4: I take a small section of hair from underneath my pony tail. I back comb the section to make it look thicker and spritz with hairspray and wrap it around my ponytail to hind my hair band then secure with a hair grip.

Step 5: To finish I pull out any baby hairs I want out and spray all of my hair with hairspray to hold in place all day/night long.

Hair types: This hairstyle works best on medium to long hair. Looks good with both thick and thin hair.

Top tip: Take the top section of hair in the pony tail and tease the root with a back combing brush to create height and volume.

Hair style number 3: Detailed top knot

This hairstyle is perfect for those hot, humid and sweaty summer days. Its super quick and easy and only takes 5 minutes! It looks sooo cute and sleek and the details of the bun makes the hairstyle look so polished. I find it works best on dirty hair so is perfect when your trying to go one more day before washing it.

Step 1: Give your hair a good brush before you start then tip your head upside down and gather all your hair into a pony tail on top of your head. Use a backcombing brush as your doing this so there are no bumps. Tie with a hair band.

Step 2: Split your pony tail into three sections and plait your hair all the way to the tip then secure with a hair tie.

Step 3: Pull the sides of the plait from root to tip making the plait wider and thicker.

Step 4: Wrap the plait around the first hair band holding the pony tail to create a bun, Tuck hairband at the end into the bun to hide. Then pin in place with a few hair grips.

Step 5: Spray all your hair with hairspray to slay all day ;)

Hair types: Medium to long hair and thin and thick.

Top tip: Before gathering hair into a pony tail apply a small amount of wax or hair oil to smooth any fly aways.

What's in my make-up bag: Summer edition

Summer is finally here and the weather to match!

I don't know about you but I have definitely switched up the products in my make up bag.

Out with the creme products and in with the powders and setting spray to prevent my make up from sweating off my face.

I very much opted for the natural sun kissed look this summer with lots of glow!

Here are all the products I use on a daily basis to keep my face looking fresh and keep my make up in place all day long.

Lets start with my face products.

1. The Pore Fessional face primer by Benefit

I put this on my T zone to mattify my face and keep my make-up on all day.

2. Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation

This is super light weight foundation, I would say the coverage is like a BB creme.

I like to let my skin breath through my foundation in the summer and it also has SPF 15 in too.

3. Mac Pro Long Wear Concealer

Like it says in the name its very long wearing so gives me that extra sweat protection.

I put this under my eyes, blemishes and any areas I need extra coverage.

4. Illamasqua Loose Power

I used this on top of my concealer to stop it from moving and to 'bake' my oily areas such as my forehead and chin.

This product is perfect for all skin tones as it has no colour to it when dusted away.

5. Mac Studio Fix

I use this when I need more coverage or if its really sunny and warm outside.

I feel like it soaks up all the sweat and is more long wearing on top of my foundation.

6. L'oreal Glam Bronze Wild Instinct in 302 Medium

I recently found this in my make up draw from ages ago and have fallen in love.

The product gives you a beautiful natural bronzed glow.

I put this on my forehead, temples, Tip and sides of my nose, hollows of my cheeks, jawline and down my neck.

With a clean fluffy brush I dust over all of my face to blend the powders together and cancel out any harsh lines.

7. Benefit Watt's Up and Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle

Oh my gosh this highlight combo is life.

Watt's Up is a creme highlight which I put on top of my foundation before I set my face with powders.

I put it on my brow bone, bridge of my nose, cupids bow and cheek bones then blend it with a stippling brush or my fingers.

Then on top I put on Soft and Gentle which is a powder highlight and apply with a fan brush.

And when the light hits, WOW thank you to the glowing gods.

Eyes and brows.

1. Brow Zing by Benefit

My is in super old packaging,  I've had it for so long!

Its a creme and powder duo.

I use the creme on the outer half and then place the powder on top to prevent the creme from melting off my face.

I also put the powder on the inner half to create a super natural,  gradual brow.

2. It Stick by Benefit

I don't even know if they sell this anymore, I got it years ago.

Its a creme concealer pencil which I use to clean up and sharper my brows.

3. Clinique High Impact Mascara

I love this mascara!!

I got it as a sample in a magazine and absolutely love the formula and brush.

I will definitely be buying the full sized one soon.

Lips.

These two are my favourites at the moment I keep switching up between the two.

1. Mac Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Cultured

Again its super long wearing and keeps my lipsticks/ gloss in place for longer.

Its a pinky nude so goes with almost any gloss or lipstick shade.

2. Mac Lipstick in Vegas Volt

This is such a beautiful coral shade and looks amazing with green or hazel eyes.

Really brings them out!

3. NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Angle Cake.

This is such a pretty pinky nude, not stick either!

Lastly Setting spray to keep your face slay'd all day!

1. NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray

I personally don't think it has a dewy finish but keeps my make up in place all day, blends in all my powder and makes me glow from space.

Any queries or questions please do not hesitate to contact me and hope you have a great summer.

My blog will also be moving to WordPress soon but will keep you updated.

My Weight Loss Journey

I am back again! Not with anything beauty or make up related this time. I wanted to share with you all my weight loss journey. How I lost weight and what I ate to loose the weight too.
A few years ago I used to be very uncomfortable with my weight. Some of you might look at my before picture and think I'm being silly, but this is the biggest I've ever been and I felt so insecure.
I was living a very unhealthy lifestyle during my time at college, eating junk all week and going out Drinking and partying all weekend. At one point I was eating Subway, Nandos, Harvester and a fry-up every week! I didn't really notice I was gaining weight until my mum told me one time that I looked a little chubby in my dress before I went out clubbing, she could of picked a better time haha! When I finished college I cut down on eating junk food and hardly went out clubbing anymore, I knew I had gained a lot of weight but was too lazy to do anything about it.

My weight really started to affect me when myself and my boyfriend went to Dubai last year. Before my holiday I was trying on some of my bikinis and shorts and I didn't fit into any of them from the previous years. I felt so insecure so I started jogging everyday until my holiday came. I lost a little bit of weight around my waist but not much.
Here is a picture of me taken after my holiday last year on the left and a recent picture of me on the right.

My real fitness journey started in September when my dad passed away.
(Blog is coming soon)
I joined the gym and was really into working out and eating healthy.

Let me start with what I ate 5 days a week, at the weekend I would try to stick to healthy eating but would go off track and have a few cheat meals.
Every morning I would have a smoothie that consists of frozen and fresh fruit and veg, Protein shake powder (keeps you fuller for longer) oat bran and soya milk.

This morning I had in my smoothie;

  • 1 hand full of frozen mixed summer fruits,
  • 1 fresh beetroot,
  • 1/4 cucumber,
  • 1 handful of fresh coconut pieces,
  • 1 whole banana,
  • Table spoon of oat bran
  • 1 scoop of protein shake powder
  • 1 squirt of guava syrup (a natural sugar)
  • 1 cup of coconut soya milk

For lunch I would have a salad, The key is to be creative with your salads by adding meat, fruit and different cheese. The more ingredients you use the better because you want to be full and satisfied. Also keep away from processed foods, keep it organic!

For my lunch yesterday I had;
  • Mixed salad bowl from Waitrose
  • Sundried tomatos
  • Figs
  • Pomegranate
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Brunswick ham
  • Chicken breast with garlic and sweet chilli sauce
For dinner I would eat what ever my mum makes for the family. Its always some sort of meat or fish and vegetables or Pasta. I would eat one carb with my dinner like potatoes or pasta. I like to stick to eating carbohydrates once a day. For example if I have toast for breakfast I won't have carbs for lunch or dinner. Also swap brown for white!!

Now moving on to exercise, I started working out 3-5 times a week. I would work out for an hour to an hour and a half. My workouts consisted of 20 minutes of cardio and 40 minutes of weight training. I personally believe weight training plays a big part in loosing weight and also sculpts your body.
I run or walk up hill for 20 minutes to warm up.
Then I would move on to working out my bum and legs.  So I prefer doing a heavier weight and less reps. So I  squat with 20kg-30kg either on the machine or holding kettle bells and do between 8-12 reps. I also do 20 walking lunges with 15kg weight. Then I just go around and use all the bum and leg machines I see. Leg and bum exercises burn fat while toning and building muscle, I feel like it slims down my hips and lower belly too.
Next is abs, I normally just do a 20 minute ab blaster on youtube or do a couple of my favourite ab exercises. I do 20-30 reps of each exercise.
Then 10 minutes of stretching! None of us like to ache in the morning!

... And I am 1 stone down!! I feel much healthier and happier within myself.
I hope I could help and motivate some of you, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

My Secret Hacks To Fuller Looking Lips

Lets face it, we all want to achieve big juicy lips like Kylie J, but not all of us have the money to invest in lip fillers or even want to go through the pain.

There are many ways online to create fuller looking lips and trust me I've researched them all.
Today I'm going to share with you My Secret Hacks To Fuller Looking Lips and the best way thats worked for me.

There are many different products involved which helps re-create the look but trust me it only takes a couple of minutes.
I will list each product used in my step-by-step guide of how I created the look.
Almost every product used are high end brands so please feel free to message, email or leave a comment bellow for more affordable dupes.

So this is my lips with nothing on them.

First product I used is my all time favourite Highlighter, What's Up by Benefit.
Its a creme highlighter. I used this on my cupids bow and dragged it down the centre of my lip outline. I also put it on the bottom corners of my lip outline.

Next I went in with a nude lip liner, I used Make-Up Forever Aqua Lip Waterproof Pencil in the colour 3C Medium Natural Beige.
I outlined my lips ever so slightly. Most people have an 'invisible' lip line and thats is slightly above your coloured lip outline. My 'invisable' lipline is the guide I use to over line my lips.
To blend in my lipliner I dragged it down and lightly shade in the corners of my lips.

You want to use a lip liner that is close to your natural lip colour so it looks more natural.

The trick to over lining your lips is to go in with a slightly darker lipliner to create a shadow effect.
I only put this on my cupids bow and the centre of my bottom lip line.
I used Spice by Mac.

Next up is adding lipstick, I dabbed on Vegas Volt by Mac in the centre to add a touch of colour.

Lipgloss is the key to making your lips appear more plump. I used a super shiny one to make my lips appear more round and juicy. I used Mac CremeSheen in the colour Boy Bait.
I applied this all over my lips.

The last step is to put a shimmer or glitter in the centre of the top and bottom lip to create the pout effect.
I dabbed on Soft and Gentle by Mac with my finger.
You could use another lipgloss but I feel like a powder highlight stays on for longer.

Feel free to use a little concealer and a small flat brush to clean up any edges.

For any Questions, enquiries or Cheaper dupes for any product used please leave a comment or send me an email:  ajaimieleigh@ymail.com

Nars VS Charlotte Tilbury

I am often getting asked about what foundation I use so I thought this would be very helpful for some of you. As I am absolutely obsessed with buying and trying new products and as a make up artist I thought I would do a review on my favourite foundations. I have tried so many different brands and types of foundations to suit my skin and these are my top 2..

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
VS
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

Okay so let me start with my all time favourite.. Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.
I have nothing bad to say about this foundation. I have been using this for about 6 months now and still obsessed. With other foundations I have experienced it going very cakey as the day goes on and when I've been wearing the foundation for a couple of months it starts reacting differently with my skin and goes 'mouldy'.
Nars is very light weight on the skin, It doesn't even feel like I am wearing foundation. It enhances the natural contours of the face and doesn't make your face look one dimensional and one flat colour, just looks very skin like.
I would say its medium coverage but can build it up to a full coverage. Its has a dewy finish so I wouldn't recommend this foundation for oily skin types. I like to wear this one in the day with just a little concealer and some highlighter on the high points of my face to create the 'strobing' effect.
The formula is a very thin and a runny consistency. A little goes a long way so I personally only use 2 pumps in the day time and if I'm going on a night out I would use 3 to to build up the coverage so I can layer other products on top.
I have olive skin so I use the shade 'Punjab' which has a yellow undertone.

I have recently started trying Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation for the past month or so as I have been hearing good things about her products.
This foundation is a very full coverage which I don't normally go for. The foundation is a matte finish which again I don't normally go for. When I first applied it I didn't really like the finish it gave to my face, it was very matte and my face looked very flat and one colour.
As I played around with the foundation a little more I started to love it. The foundation is very long lasting and I loved the fact I didn't have to powder my shiny areas!
This foundation is amazing for nights out because you can layer products on top and everything blends in amazingly.
The consistency is very thick so I only use 1-2 pumps. I recommend this foundation for both skin types as it is mattifying so perfect for oily skin. The product is also moisturising so is good for dry skin types too. Its just a matter of what finish you like best.. Dewy or matte.
I would only recommend this foundation to those who like to wear a lot of make up on a day to day basis.

I use the shade 'Medium' which is a little pale for my skin colour so contouring so a must!
It has a very neutral undertone so would suit any undertone wether pink or yellow.

I hope you found this helpful, If so please share my blog post to others.
